Develop and propose sustainable products and solutions

By integrating the notion of sustainability at every stage of its value chain. Thanks to its greenhouse gas emissions assessment, ABEO knows its carbon footprint and is working on concrete actions: from a responsible purchasing policy to the development of maintenance services, via eco-design and the reduction of its energy consumption.

Our Responsible Purchasing Policy

ABEO follows a Purchasing Code, which is regularly updated to reflect regulatory changes and the Group’s requirements. It has been signed by 61% of our suppliers, demonstrating their commitment to responsible practices. The Group also prioritizes suppliers located near its production sites, promotes sustainable resource management, and encourages the reduction of hazardous substances, such as the phthalate-free PVC used in Gymnova mats.

Our Eco-Design Approach

Eco-design is a key driver of our CSR strategy and is gradually becoming an integral part of ABEO’s innovation process. We are working to reduce the environmental impact of our equipment throughout its entire life cycle by optimizing resource use, prioritizing recycled and recyclable materials, and developing more sustainable solutions.

The Group is currently formalizing a common eco-design strategy to support all its subsidiaries in this transformation. Several companies have already embarked on this initiative, such as JANSSEN-FRITSEN, with a gymnastics mat made primarily from recycled materials and designed to be recyclable at the end of its life, and BIGAIRBAG, which is developing a recyclable polypropylene airbag to replace PVC.

Our Actions to Reduce Energy Use

ABEO continuously improves the energy efficiency of its production sites to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations. Today, seven Group companies are ISO 14001 certified, demonstrating their commitment to structured environmental management. At the ACMAN site, an energy monitoring system analyzes the consumption of each workstation, identifies residual consumption, and guides investments toward more efficient equipment, such as a new, more energy-efficient paint oven.

Our Actions to Reduce Waste

ABEO takes action at every stage of production to limit the amount of waste generated and promote its recovery. The selection of raw materials, the optimization of manufacturing processes, and waste sorting help reduce scrap while improving resource utilization. Several Group companies are also implementing local initiatives—such as reusing packaging, recycling solvents, and optimizing material cutting—to extend the lifespan of resources and enhance the circularity of their operations.

Our Services for More Sustainable Products

Extending the lifespan of equipment is a key component of ABEO’s eco-design approach. In addition to their product offerings, several brands provide maintenance, repair, and spare parts services, such as Janssen-Fritsen, EP Climbing, Bosan, and Navic. Entirely dedicated to these activities, Sportsafe supplies, installs, maintains, and inspects sports equipment for more than 10,000 customers in the United Kingdom, thereby contributing to a more sustainable use of sports facilities.
