Climbat celebrates 20 years of indoor climbing excellence
In 2026, Climbat centers celebrate two decades of existence. Over the past twenty years, the brand has established itself as a pioneer in indoor climbing in Spain, playing a key role in transforming the discipline into a genuine urban phenomenon.
Climbat centers: 20 years of growing climbing
Founded on the belief that climbing could be accessible to everyone, Climbat has gradually developed a network of modern, well-structured centres (six in Spain, one in France), designed to be both sports practice spaces, learning environments and places for social interaction. From the outset, the goal was clear: democratize access to verticality by offering solid coaching and facilities suited to all levels, from beginners to advanced climbers.

An innovative pedagogical approach
Guided by Jaume Oliveras, Director of Operations, Climbat has implemented a progressive and safe learning method. Rather than overwhelming beginners with too much information, exercises are introduced step by step: first hand technique, then foot placement, body positioning and finally height management. This approach helps climbers overcome their fear of heights and work on the emotional aspect of climbing.
This scientific method has reassured newcomers and significantly broadened the audience. The centers are not only training facilities but also places for education, social interaction and community engagement.
A driving force behind the visibility and development of climbing
Over the past twenty years, climbing has grown considerably, particularly with its inclusion in the Olympic program in 2020. Medalists at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and then Paris in 2024 have boosted the sport’s visibility.
The iconic Foixarda centre in Barcelona perfectly illustrates a successful public-private cooperation: the city council has repurposed an unused space into a sports facility, whilst Climbat manages it with affordable rates and without high rents.

20 years and a vision for the future
To mark its 20th anniversary, Climbat is celebrating not only its past but also its vision for the future: providing safe and accessible spaces, strengthening the climbing community and continuing to make climbing a genuine gateway to practice that is inclusive and environmentally responsible. Two decades after its founding, Climbat remains a key player in the world of climbing, combining innovation, education and a passion for verticality.
