EP Climbing Brings Outdoor Climbing to the Heart of Chamrousse
In Chamrousse, in France’s Isère region, EP Climbing has created an outdoor climbing village to expand the resort’s summer activities. Opened in summer 2026 at Roche Béranger, the space features three boulders with free public access, offering families and friends a place to discover climbing or develop their skills.
The project builds on a successful trial: for two consecutive summers, Chamrousse offered visitors a container boulder rented from EP Climbing. Visitor interest prompted the resort to invest in a permanent installation to complement its natural climbing sites.
Three EP Climbing Boulders, More Ways to Climb
Combining the Arches, Verdon and Canyon models from its XP range, EP Climbing created a space that can accommodate up to 19 climbers at once. The varied profiles and difficulty levels allow visitors to learn the basics, refine their movement or warm up before heading to the surrounding crags.
Designed for permanent outdoor installation, the boulders feature weather-resistant, low-maintenance panels suited to mountain conditions. Portable landing mats, known as crash pads, are available to hire from the Roche Béranger tourist office.

Climbing Adds to the Appeal of Summer in the Mountains
This project reflects a wider move to diversify mountain activities. According to France’s National Association of Mountain Resort Mayors, accommodation occupancy rates in mountain resorts rose by 2.5% in summer 2026, reaching 65.8%. The association highlights sports and family activities as key contributors to this appeal.
In Chamrousse, EP Climbing offers a practical response to this opportunity: an activity at the heart of the resort that complements existing leisure facilities and caters to a range of abilities. From a temporary boulder to a permanent climbing village, the project also shows how destinations can trial an activity before making it a lasting part of their visitor offering.
