Three new sports added to the Buenos Aires 2018 YOG programme

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has agreed to add dance sport, karate and sport climbing to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) sports programme, which will be in addition to the 28 sports currently on the Olympic programme for the third Summer YOG.

Following the YOG Tripartite Working Group recommendations for the future of the YOG adopted by the IOC Session in Rio last August, the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee (BAYOGOC) proposed adding the three new sports to bring even more innovation to its Games.   Inspired by the success of the Nanjing 2014 Sports Lab and in line with its mission to “bring sport to the people”, the BAYOGOC has proposed that the three sports be organised in the Urban Park and Youth Olympic Park—two of the four parks spread across in the city, featuring a mix of sport, culture and educational activities in a festive atmosphere.
